“To love mercy” - the second charge to us in Micah 6:8. But what does that really mean? The Amplified Bible words that phrase this way: to love [and diligently practice] kindness (compassion.)

When we love something or someone, that love can fill our thoughts. The boy who wants to be a baseball player “always” has baseball on his mind, and probably talks about it a lot, too. He may imagine himself as a pro player, but he has to do more than dream – he diligently practices with the team and on his own. Why? Because he loves the game and wants to be the best baseball player he can be.

So to love kindness and compassion means it is very important to you. You think and talk about ways you can help people or causes God puts on your heart. Your desire is to “diligently practice” that passion by extending the kindness, compassion and love of God to others.

It may be sitting and listening to someone grieving a loved one; just “being there” for them. It can be fixing meals for someone recovering from surgery or making time to visit a widow or shut-in. It can be plunging in to intervene on behalf of human trafficking victims, finding access to clean water for a village without it, aiding the homeless, or countless other deeds of compassion.

As I wrote in an earlier blog, a verse that reminds me of Micah 6:8, is Isaiah 1:17. It reads, "Learn to do good, seek justice, reprove the ruthless, defend the orphan, plead for the widow.” So love mercy (kindness, compassion) and diligently practice it! Being obedient in this will make you a World Changer, and a blessing not only to others, but to the heart of your loving and compassionate Abba Father!
